Culinary Tour in Pondicherry

Usually, when we plan a trip, I do a lot of research about the place. As in, what places to sight see and where to eat what are the experiences that we should take back as memories with us, etc. Needless to say, I did a similar thing while planning the mini bachelorette trip too.
Now, Pondicherry, as you know is famous for everything French, including the food! We had a lot of restaurants on our “to-visit” list, and only 2 days to visit them. So, on day 2 of our trip, we decided to go restaurant hopping!

Streets of Pondicherry!

Entrance of Cafe des arts

Ambience: beautiful, rustic and homely
inside case des arts

Service: a bit sloppy, lazy staff
Food (What we ordered) : Banana Nutella Waffles- waffles were a disappointment, they were rubbery. Only the banana and Nutella gave flaour to the dish!
Pondy Tartines: Spicy chicken shreds with onions olives and cheese on a an extremely HARD sub of bread. Though it tasted pretty good, it was not at all edible because the sub was hard for human teeth to break through it!

Ready for pizza!!

Ambience: Nothing great, probably one of the very few restaurants in Pondicherry that have AC
Service: Friendly staff, and quite quick service
Food (What we ordered) : Since we were just two of us, we ordered just 1 pizza. I don’t remember the name
PIZZA!!

But it sure was tasty. Fresh woodfired pizza, but the only con is that it looses its charm once the pizza is cold. Once cold, it tastes like roti, with pizza toppings ( not very interesting, I know!). If you are lucky, you might spot some celebs, like we spotted Kunal Roy Kapoor here :)

Ambience: The café is sea facing and right on the promenade. But they could do better cleanliness wise.
The Promenade from Le Cafe

Service:This is a self-service café.
Food (What we ordered): Chocolate milkshake, is avoidable.
Chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup- This was just the opposite of the chocolate milkshake. So very delectable, so palatable, the hot and cold mixture was an amazing feeling. I could have at least 3 more before my stomach would be full!

Ambience: This restaurant is so beautiful. Painted in bright yellow. They have also kept a colourful scooter inside to compliment the bright yellow walls. I instantly fell in love with this place.
Service: The staff was very active and explained each dish very well, which helped us make the choice of the dish we want.
That scooter <3

Food (What we ordered) :Laccha Tokri.  Since we were tired of eating all kinds of bread since 2 days, we decided to have something with indian spices. Hence, we chose this restaurant. Unfortunately, we went at the wrong time and were forced to order chaats. Lachcha Tokri was similar to Raj Kachori that you get anywhere in India. But it sure was refreshing from the regular bread that we had been eating.

5) ZUKA!!

Ambience: Tiny, cozy place, with choclate everywhere you look. The butterflies you see in the image below, believe me, they are made of chocolate!

Chocolate butterflies

Service: Quick and enthusiastic staff
Food, or rather, Desserts (What we ordered here) : Butterscotch tart- Yummy is an understatement
Zebra pastry, which was a bit dry, but I still loved it!

Oh! How I love ZUKA!!

Ambience: Unmatched for!

<3
Service: Unmatched for!
Food (What we ordered) : Well, the food was the only let down here at Club Mahindra resorts. We ordered French fries and a Margherita Pizza. The fries were a bit too salty, but, that how I like my fries- “Crispy salty”. Pizza on the other hand was bland! But since it was full of mozzarella cheese, though I did not love it, I sure did like it.

Again- PIZZA!!
And finally, one last time before we left Puducherry, We had breakfast at Club Mahindra, which was worth the money. We had pancakes, various croissants, sausages, live counter for eggs and dosas , idli, upma and fresh fruit juices.
The pancakes were good, but the let down was that they served them with Honey instead of Maple syrup. The cheese omelette was bland and not edible. The fresh fruit juices, the soft and fresh croissants and the chicken sausages made up for what was not good.

Good-Bye Pondicheery!

All in all, we had a great culinary experience in Pondicherry. Now, that I have seen everything in Pondicherry, I would go back there only for Auroville, The Promenade, Bay of Buddha and to try more food!
